VENEZIA, CHE IMPRESA! La grande veduta prospettica di Jacopo de’ Barbari
Alle Gallerie d’Italia - Palazzo Leoni Montanari
Contra’ S. Corona 25, Vicenza
From 22 October 2021 to 18 April 2022
A walk, or rather a flight, in the Venice of 1500.
The “great enterprise” of Jacopo de' Barbari, considered one of the greatest expressions of urban cartography of all time due to its considerable size, richness of details, quality of design and execution, is the result of a collective commitment of over three years which sees at work - at the turn of the 16th century - a real "team" of cartographers and engravers.
The exhibition presents, for the first time, the comparison between two versions of the masterpiece: the first belonging to the Querini Stampalia Foundation and the third from the Intesa Sanpaolo collections.
Alongside the main view of the exhibition, the exhibition itinerary offers historical-cultural insights and anchors on the two examples of the work of Jacopo de' Barbari and on the other documents on display in support of the evolution of cartographic production, to understand the before and after de’ Barbari.
The exhibition, with the patronage of the Municipality of Vicenza, is organized in collaboration with the Querini Stampalia Foundation and is included in the program of celebrations for the 1600 years of Venice.
